Pride Project

Pride Project is a photographic series by queer photographer Lauren Crooke that balances cinematic portraiture with lived storytelling from within the LGBTQIA+ community.

Each image is inspired by a real account submitted by a participant, translated by Crooke into carefully constructed visual narratives using light, atmosphere, and staged composition.

The work interprets experience, exploring identity, vulnerability, resilience, and the quieter realities of queer life that often remain unseen but are deeply relatable for many. The images function collectively as a communal narrative, shaped by many voices while retaining the specificity of individual stories.

While rooted in deeply personal experiences, the series speaks to universal themes of belonging, struggle, and endurance. Pride Project is both a tribute to the strength of the LGBTQIA+ community and an invitation to engage with queer stories through empathy, attention, and care.

I have the privilege of operating across this vast continent, and so must acknowledge that each image displayed was taken on unceded Aboriginal land. I acknowledge the sovereignty of Aboriginal nations and that Aboriginal connection to the land I live and work on can never be extinguished. I give our unwavering respects to the First Nations Elders, past, and present.
